Elder Futhark Rune Meanings - THURISAZ

Thurisaz Rune Meaning: Frost Giant
Alternative Names
Anglo-Friesian/Germanic: Thurisaz
Old Norse: Thurs
Old English: Thorn
Other Names/Spellings: Thurisa, Thurisar

Thurisaz equates to the letters TH pronounced "th" as in thumb in our common alphabet.

The original Norse meaning of the word is "Frost Giant". A Giant is a being of extraordinary power, significance, or importance. This rune works on unconscious level. When we become conscious of things beyond our understanding, we will experience chaos as we have not attuned ourselves within to  balance out these raw primal forces which have not been given any form yet. We can feel overwhelmed as things beyond our conscious mind require a lot of energy. As so a person whom possesses alot of knowledge needs not to over inform a person that can not process this information within his or her understanding. Risks of temptation to play with fire will be lit and the student will burn coming into understanding with things that were not yet to be discovered on his or her own in suitable pass. Thurisaz therefor on magical level requires a lot of understanding and knowledge that can be applied with wisdom knowing the forces that are at play to give it direction without creating more chaos from chaotic atmosphere.

From the historical rune poems about Thurisaz we get:
An Old Norse Rune Poem translated says:
"Thurse causes women sickness; Little cheer results from pain (discomfort)."

From the Icelandic we get:
"Torture of women and cliff-dweller and husband of a giantess. Misfortune makes few men cheerful."

The Anglo-Saxon rune poem can tell us:
"Thorn is very sharp · for every thane, Who grabs it, it is evil and immeasurably cruel. For every man · that with it rests."

Thurs is the rune of masculine raw defending energy. Warding off all that should not come into being.
Keywords: Thor, destruction by natural forces , conflicts, disputes,  lightning, breakthrough,  battering down barriers, thorn of awakening, warding off trouble, enthusiasm

This video contains one of my rune poems that can be used for meditation with the energy of Thurisaz.
