Elder Futhark Rune Meanings - PERTHRO

Rune Meaning Perthro - "Unknown"
Alternative Names
Anglo-Friesian/Germanic: Perth
Old Norse: Pertho, Peorth
Old English: Peorth
Other Names/Spellings: Perthu, Peordh, Perthro, Perthrold, Pertra

Perthro equates to the letter P in our common alphabet.

Perthro is the sixth rune of the second Aett and is one of mystery.  The one who seeks the mysteries of the Universe through the understanding of synchronicity. In relation to fate, Perthro is said to mean lot-box, gaming-piece or dice-cup. This not only fits the shape of the rune, but also hints to the use as a container in which all other runes are kept. This rune symbolizes a vessel or cup, keeping everything hidden, all those mysteries that can only be uncovered after initiation from old to the new. In this way, it is also associated with the womb, uterus or vulva as symbology for holding, nurturing, containing and giving ‘birth’ to new concepts and life.

From the historical rune poems about Perthro we get:
The Anglo Saxon rune poem translated tells us:  "Lot-box is a source of recreation and amusement to the great, where warriors sit blithely together in the banqueting-hall ."

Perthro is the rune used for divination. The rune holds the disclosure of a secret.
