This rune represents the human as a whole, incorporating intelligence, memory, rationality, common sense, traditions and cultures. It represents our ‘humanity’. The realm of the human race in Northern Lore is Midgard. Mannaz represents all of humanity who are present on the Earthly plane. To be a spiritual being, you must balance body, mind and spirit. This rune can teach us to embrace everything, good and bad alike, with total acceptance, knowing that each new experience will teach more of life itself. Like the spiritual relationship that a horseman can develop with his horse, is a good example of the power behind this Rune. In Old Norse there is a saying that goes: "marr er manns fylgja" (the horse is a man's fetch) indicating how close one spirit can be connected with another to achieve goals with more power than one would have by itself.
